The challenges facing regional public universities and strategies to turn obstacles into opportunities will be the focus of a Chronicle of Higher Education (CHE) virtual forum at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 30.  “Leading a Regional Public University Today” will provide an in-depth examination of key takeaways from a recently released comprehensive survey conducted by The Chronicle of Higher Education with support from Academic Partnerships.

Of the more than 400 participants in the survey, “Regional Public Colleges Face Turbulent Times,” 68% of respondents – including presidents, provosts, chancellors and deans – believe that the value and importance of regional public universities are underestimated by both the American public and federal lawmakers. But the survey also identified critical pathways to sustainable success in the face of increasing competition and other higher education challenges.

The virtual forum will feature higher education experts and CHE panelists, including Dr. Charles Welch, former President of Arkansas State University System and incoming AASCU President, as well as an interview segment with Dr. Thomas Newsom, President of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and Susan Dukes, President, University Partnerships of Academic Partnerships. The discussion will showcase actionable insights revealed by the survey and the strategies regional public universities can implement to expand their impact on their students and communities.
